Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park
Muonio · Finland · Lapland
Finland's most visited national park, stretching 60 km along a chain of ancient fells between Hetta and Ylläs. The Hetta–Pallas route is the country's most iconic multi-day fell trek.
Pallas-Yllästunturi is shaped by the last ice age: the fell chain runs along a ridge where two ancient fjords once met. The landscape alternates between open fell plateau, birch-covered slopes, and sheltered valleys. The Hetta–Pallas route (55 km, 4–6 days) is Finland's most celebrated long-distance hike, with a chain of staffed and unstaffed wilderness huts managed by Metsähallitus. The Pallastunturi fell summit (807 m) offers views across the Pallasjärvi lake system on clear days — one of the defining panoramas of Lapland. The park is also a major cross-country skiing destination in winter, with trails connecting resort villages.
